Q. Why is the list of Servers different from the list in the Open Database dialog in Lotus Notes?

A. The list of servers is provided to Caliton Template Analyzer from your current Lotus Domino home server.  The list of servers in the Lotus Notes Open Database dialog is based on the databases on your Lotus Notes workspace. Caliton Template Analyzer cannot access the list of servers in your Lotus Notes workspace and can only obtain the list provided by your home Lotus Domino server.

Q. Why does the Template list (by default) include databases that are not actually templates?

A. This occurs for performance and usability reasons.  It is relatively quick to get a list of all databases on a server.  But in order to produce a list containing only templates, each database must first be opened before it can be determined if the database is in fact a template. Opening a database is a time consuming operation and therefore filtering the list can be quite time consuming. User feedback indicated that the Show templates only filtering option was preferred as an option rather then as the default.

Q. Why does Caliton Template Analyzer take a long time to analyze some databases?

A. This is most often due to databases that have inconsistent structures. When a database is opened which Lotus Notes determines to be in an inconsistent state, then it will automatically perform a consistency check on that database. An inconsistent state most often occurs when a database was open when Lotus Notes shutdown abnormally. If the database is large then the consistency check can take a long time to finish and Caliton Template Analyzer may appear to have stopped working, when in fact it is waiting for the consistency check to finish.  This inconsistency check happens automatically and unfortunately Template Analyzer has to wait for this check to complete, just like you would have to wait if you opened the database in Lotus Notes yourself.

Q. Why does Caliton Template Analyzer stop or lock up on some databases?

A. This is most often due to databases that contain corrupt design elements. If Caliton Template Analyzer attempts to open a corrupt design element then it may freeze or crash.  Unfortunately there is no way of checking if a design element is corrupt before you open it, so if Template Analyzer keeps stopping on one particular database then you should check if the database contains corrupt design elements and run Fixup on the database if necessary.

Q. How can I decrease the amount of time to analyze my databases.

A. There are a number of ways to decrease the time required for analysis.

Exclude databases from analysis. For example, user mail files, backup copies of databases and so on.
Analyze local databases on your local computer rather than databases on remote servers.
Analyze on a server that has a fast network connection rather than a slow network connection
Only search for a specific design element, or a specific type of design element
Ensure that the Logging Level is set to Low.

Q. Why does the login box appear at startup?

A. The login box is asking for your Lotus Notes password.  This can appear for two reasons. First you may have started Caliton Template Analyzer from Windows (rather than from Notes).  Second, your Lotus Notes client security may be configured not to share your password with other programs.
